Mayagüez day trip

Rich Spanish culture, right on the Caribbean

Founded in 1760 and later developed into a city port, the town of Mayagüez is located on the west coast of Puerto Rico near the towns of Añasco, Hormigueros, Las Marias, Cabo Rojo, Maricao, and San German. Known to locals as "La Sultana del Oeste" (the sultana of the West), it's named after its river, the Yagüez.

The third largest city in Puerto Rico, Mayagüez is built around the Spanish-style Plaza Colon, marked by a majestic statue of Christopher Columbus, a historic Catholic church, and City Hall. Home to the Eugenio Maria de Hostos Law School and the Pontiff Catholic University, it's an academically focused town with a thriving college culture.
